According to the Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), it is the region's lowest total in 2022 thus far, and the worst year-on-year fall this year.
Covid epidemics throughout mainland China, notably Guangzhou and Shanghai, have had a detrimental impact on revenue, despite Macau's Covid laws being relaxed throughout the month, according to Inside Asian Gaming.
The validation period for required Covid test results was reduced from 24 to 48 hours on April 20 by Macau's Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, before being reduced further to 72 hours on April 24. However, travel restrictions to the region have since been strengthened.
GGR for the first four months of 2022 is MOP24.5 billion, a 36% decrease from the first four months of 2021.
This decrease was 25% year on year in March, 8% in February, and 21% in January.
February 2022 is still the most promising month of 2022, with GGR hitting MOP7.75 billion. The month is also the only one to show a year-on-year rise, with February 2022 GGR up 6% from February 2021.
March had previously recorded the lowest figure of 2022, with GGR at MOP3.67 billion. Meanwhile, the amount for January was MOP6.34 billion. These months had year-on-year decreases of 21% and 56%, respectively.
