Following an increase in cases, the company's casino, Star Vegas (pictured), has suspended operations until further notice in order to avoid the spread of Covid-19.
The business stressed that the health and safety of its employees and visitors remains a top concern, and Donaco will continue to monitor developments and notify the market when there is an update.
Lockdowns have been imposed in Phnom Penh, Ta Khmau, and Preah Sihanouk, with province governor Oum Reatry ordering the closure of all casinos in the region.
The casino was shut down after an outbreak of Covid-19 instances among casino patrons was discovered, according to The Star: "The casino business in Banteay Meanchey province is temporarily closed until further notice."
"Seeing the outbreak, the provincial administration decided to suspend all casinos in Poipet town," said Chhoeun Kraiyong, provincial administration director and spokesperson. "We wouldn't have closed them if it wasn't related." The casino where the instances were discovered was not identified.
Phnom Penh, Cambodia's capital city, has extended its nighttime curfew until May 5. The curfew was implemented on April 1st and has subsequently been extended. NagaWorld, a casino resort in the city, has been closed since March after numerous staff tested positive for Covid-19.
