Betdex, the first sports wagering exchange to be entirely licenced and regulated using blockchain technology, has been issued a betting licence in Ireland.
The Isle of Man also granted Betdex a licence to operate online wagering in October 2022.
The licencing sanction, according to the company, occurs simultaneously with the launch of in-play wagering for the cricket and tennis markets.
Additionally, secondary markets will be available for wagering on the exchange. These include set winners and game winners in tennis, as well as a number of goals and goal scorers for the English and European football competitions.
In addition to its ongoing initiatives, it is anticipated that the organisation will introduce wagering markets for additional sports and competitions, such as cycling, the Rugby World Cup, and the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.
"As a United Kingdom-based organisation with a local presence in Ireland, the Betdex team is enthusiastic about venturing into a familiar yet novel operational domain," stated Betdex CEO Varun Sudhakar.
"Throughout its history, Ireland has consistently led the way in sports wagering innovation. This licence not only grants Irish citizens the ability to utilise our platform for betting purposes, but also initiates the region to the potential and advantages of blockchain and web3 technologies.
"We are certain that this will further promote the worldwide acceptance and utilisation of web3 betting platforms."
Nigel Eccles, chairman of Betdex, stated, "Ireland has historically been an innovator and adopter of cutting-edge technologies. "I am honoured to facilitate the return of the Betdex exchange to my country of origin."
