The documentary titled 'Ruth Davidson Tackles Gambling and Football' will look at the rise of football betting and gambling advertising.
Davidson, a Scottish football fan, will also debate whether the UK government is doing enough to combat the gambling addiction that some football fans confront.
The video will continue the debate over whether football clubs should allow gambling companies to sponsor them, something EFL Chairman Rick Parry supported earlier this year.
He cautioned that the loss of casino sponsorship would be financially detrimental to smaller clubs.
Parry went on to say: "There's no evidence to suggest banning sponsorship will reduce the prevalence of problem gambling."
Davidson, predictably, has a different stance on the link between football and gambling.
"As a lifelong fan who grew up in a football household, I've watched as our national game has become saturated by gambling logos," Davidson continued. From leagues to broadcasts, clothing to stadiums, gambling companies have invaded every aspect of the game and utilise football enthusiasts to promote other businesses.
"I wanted to find out what potential harm this has caused and whether we need a radical rethink to wean football off its gambling addiction."
Of course, whether there is a direct relationship between present levels of gambling sponsorship and gambling addiction is unknown. Gambling advertising was outlawed in Italy in 2019, for example, yet betting numbers have increased since then.
The UK government has been revisiting gambling regulations this year, and with the study still ongoing, the documentary, which is slated to premiere later this year, might breathe new life into the debate.
